There's no single "best" self-levelling compound — there's the best one for your floor. We supply levelling compound to installers every day from our Coventry trade counter, and these are the five we recommend most, matched to the jobs they're built for.
1. Best all-rounder: Larsen SLC1550 Rapid Set Pro
The one we sell more of than everything else combined. Single-part (just add water), fibre-reinforced, flexible, and pours 3–50mm in one application — so it handles everything from a 3mm skim to seriously uneven renovation floors. Walk on it in 2–4 hours, overlay in 1–3 days, use it over underfloor heating and rigid timber. At around £13 a bag it's also excellent value. View SLC1550 →
2. Best for wooden floors: Larsen LLC206 NA
A protein-free, two-part latex compound — the specification-grade answer for floorboards, old timber and other demanding substrates where maximum flexibility matters. More on when to choose latex in our wooden floors guide. View LLC206 NA →
3. Best for deep fills on a budget: Larsen SLC100
A straightforward leveller for concrete and sand/cement screeds at around £11.50 a bag — the economical choice when you're levelling sound concrete and don't need timber-grade flexibility. View SLC100 →
4. Best for external use: Larsen SLC2500
Most levellers are interior-only. SLC2500 Professional External is the exception — formulated for outside use, ideal before laying porcelain paving on an uneven base. View SLC2500 →
5. Honourable mentions: Mapei & Ardex
Mapei's Ultraplan range and Ardex levellers are excellent products with strong trade followings — if your specifier names them, use them with confidence. We stock the Larsen range because it delivers the same job-site performance at a friendlier price per bag, which is what most of our trade customers optimise for.
