Larsen Acrylic Primer for Tiling & Screeding 1L & 5L
Larsen Acrylic Primer is a ready-to-use, water-based primer for porous and difficult surfaces before tiling or screeding. It also seals gypsum plaster and screeds before cement-based tile adhesive goes on. Use it neat to seal, or diluted 1:1 with clean water for general priming.
Key features
- Ready to use: water-based polymer emulsion, supplied ready for use
- Primes or seals: dilute 1:1 for general priming, or use neat to seal gypsum plaster and screeds
- Improves adhesion for Larsen tile adhesives and Larsen flooring products
- Pink colour shows where it has been applied
- Touch dry in under 1 hour on porous surfaces
- Underfloor heating: suitable for heated concrete and cement screeds up to a maximum surface temperature of 35°C
- Tools clean up with warm water

Per-5-litre coverage is simply Larsen's per-litre figure multiplied by five.
Where to use it
- Porous and difficult substrates before tiling or screeding (see our floor levelling and preparation range)
- Gypsum plasters and screeds, sealed before cement-based tile adhesives
- Dense and porous surfaces before any Larsen tile adhesive or Larsen flooring product, such as self-levelling compound
- Heated concrete and cement screeds (underfloor heating) up to a maximum surface temperature of 35°C
How to dilute
Acrylic Primer comes ready to use but may need diluting with an equal volume of clean water (1:1), depending on the job. Diluted primer should stay usable for several days; just mix well before use.
How to apply
- Prepare the surface. It should be hard, structurally sound and stable, surface dry, and free from significant laitance, dust or other contamination that could affect adhesion.
- General priming of porous surfaces (not sealing): dilute 1:1 with clean water and apply. Very porous substrates may need a second coat once the first has dried.
- Sealing surfaces such as gypsum plaster: apply a first coat diluted 1:1 and let it dry, then apply a second coat neat. Don't let neat primer pond. Two or more neat coats may be needed.
- Tile or screed once the primer has dried clear, typically within 1–2 hours. For two coats, the usual practice is the first coat in the evening and the second the next morning, before tiling or screeding.
- Protect primed surfaces from traffic and contamination until the final product is applied. If the primer has been left to fully dry and cure for several days, adhesion may be impaired and a further coat of primer may be needed.
Work to current best practice, including BS 8203 and BS 8204 and TTA, CFA and FeRFA guidance. Priming should never be used to try to improve a poor or failing substrate. When applying neat, take care that the primer doesn't skin, which can lead to delamination.
