Tile Adhesives

Tile adhesive for porcelain, ceramic, natural stone and large-format tiles, delivered UK-wide or collected from our Coventry showroom. We stock the Larsen range, known to tilers by bag colour: Fibreflex Standard Set+ C2 S1 (the purple bag) and Fibreflex Rapid Set+ C2 S1 (the red bag) in single 20kg bags, plus FiberFlex Semi-Rapid Set+ S1, FIBERFLEX Ultimate Rapid Set S2 and the Larsen Trade C1 and C2 adhesives by the half pallet (24 bags) or full pallet (48 bags), in grey or white.

What is C2 tile adhesive? C2 is the BS EN 12004 class for an improved cement-based tile adhesive (C1 is the normal grade). An S1 or S2 rating adds flexibility. For porcelain and large-format tiles, use a flexible C2 adhesive such as Larsen Fibreflex Standard Set+ C2 S1 (grey, 20kg). A 20kg bag covers roughly 4–5m² at a 3mm bed.

Fixing large-format porcelain such as 60x120cm? Larsen's manufacturer descriptions recommend Fibreflex Standard Set+, Rapid Set+, Semi-Rapid Set+ and Ultimate S2 for large-format tiles. As a guide, a 20kg bag of Fibreflex Standard Set+ covers roughly 4–5m² at a 3mm bed.

What is the best tile adhesive for large-format tiles?

Large-format porcelain, such as 60x120cm tiles, is usually fixed with an improved cement-based adhesive (C2) that is flexible, rated S1 or S2 under BS EN 12004. At Ark Tiles, Larsen's manufacturer descriptions recommend Fibreflex Standard Set+ C2 S1, Fibreflex Rapid Set+ C2 S1, FiberFlex Semi-Rapid Set+ S1 and FIBERFLEX Ultimate Rapid Set S2 for large-format tiles. Always follow the bed depth and coverage guidance on the bag.

What do C2, S1 and S2 mean on tile adhesive?

They are classes under BS EN 12004. C = cement-based; C2 = improved adhesion (C1 = normal). S1 = deformable (flexible) and S2 = highly deformable. Extra letters: F = fast-setting, T = reduced slip on walls, E = extended open time. For example, Larsen Fibreflex Standard Set+ is listed as C2TES1.

How much tile adhesive do I need?

A 20kg bag of Larsen Fibreflex Standard Set+ covers roughly 4–5m² at a 3mm bed. Thicker beds, uneven floors and large-format tiles use more, so allow extra. Larsen Rapid Set+ works within a 3–12mm bed.

Rapid set or standard set?

Rapid set lets you grout sooner: Larsen Rapid Set+ is ready for grouting a few hours after fixing. Standard Set+ gives a longer working time (extended open time) and can be grouted after 18 hours (manufacturer data).
