Overview

Larsen Streetscape FBC Eco is a fine bedding concrete for the laying course under paving. Larsen designs it to meet or exceed the requirements of BS 7533. It is a Type B bedding mortar to Table C.4 of BS 7533 Part 7. It is made from a controlled blend of aggregate, cement and GGBS, and Larsen classes it as Eco (reduced carbon). You only need to add water.

This listing is a pallet of 40 × 25kg bags.

Where to use it

• Bedding natural stone setts and cobbles, flags, and concrete and clay pavers.
• Larsen rates it as suitable for all types of paving, including porcelain over 16mm thick when used with Larsen Streetscape PS ECO bonding mortar. See our outdoor porcelain paving.

• Working time: approx. 60 minutes. Application temperature: +3°C to +30°C.
• Time to traffic: light foot traffic after 12 hours; vehicle traffic after 1–2 days (depending on site conditions).
• Yield: approx. 13 litres per 25kg bag.
• Compressive strength: ≥ 35 MPa. Flexural strength: ≥ 6 MPa.
• Bond strength: > 2.0 MPa with Larsen Streetscape PS ECO bonding mortar.
• Dry hardened density: 2100–2200 kg/m³. Shrinkage: 0.02–0.04%.
• Shelf life: use within 6 months of manufacture. Store unopened bags in a dark, cool, dry place away from extremes of temperature.

Larsen notes that its typical performance figures come from internal reports, with independent third-party results pending.

How to use it

• Preparation: the base should meet BS 7533 for the type and level of traffic. For bound construction, substrates should be clean, sound and free from oil, grease, dust, loose particles and other contaminants. Pre-soak them, leaving no standing water.
• Bonding mortar: apply Larsen Streetscape PS ECO to the base and to the underside of each paving unit.
• Mixing: add clean water and mix in a suitable mechanical mixer for at least 3 minutes to a semi-dry, moist consistency. Check workability regularly with the “snowball” test: a ball of the mix should hold its shape when thrown in the air and caught. Don't remix or re-wet mortar that has gone off. Follow the water quantity on the bag and Larsen's data sheet.
• Application: lay 30–75mm in a single layer. For greater depths, place successive layers and compact each one before the next. If a layer has already set, prime it with Larsen Streetscape PS ECO first.
• Protection: keep foot traffic off freshly laid areas for at least 12 hours and vehicles off for at least 24 hours, depending on temperature and site conditions.
• Weather: don't lay or joint paving below 3°C on a falling thermometer or 1°C on a rising one, or onto a frozen substrate. Protect fresh bedding from bad weather and frost until it has gained enough strength.
• All work should follow the guidance in BS 7533. The mix contains cement, so read the safety data sheet before use. Clean tools with warm water before the product sets.
